For director Rafat Alzakout, “HOME” is defined by an inner sensation that is raised when being around people he can share his thoughts with and where he feels understood. He felt like this on a trip through Syria with a group of friends in 2013. Together with dancer Ahmed, the deserter Mohammed and the former teacher turned fighter in the “Free Syrian Army” Taj, he tried to establish this kind of “home” in the embattled city of Manbij through art and intellectual exchange. In a house owned by the family of one of the friends, the men celebrated together, thought about the future of the country and criticized the then crumbling regime in public puppet theatre performances.
